Highlights: Grilling Season

Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer.  The weather lately has been fabulous which makes me all the more ready for the approaching season.  Though I’ll be working some this summer, I’m looking forward to the change of pace and activities that comes with June, July and August.  One summer staple that we don’t have is a grill, though getting one is very high on my list of priorities for when we buy a house.  My Reader has been full of grilling related posts lately, which make me hope that a house purchase is going to be sooner rather than later!

If we were planning to stay in our current apartment for a long time, I’d probably push for one of these small space grills suggested on Apartment Therapy.  I had no idea there was such a variety of little grills available.

Most people know how to grill hot dogs, but venturing away from that can be scary.  The Daily Meal has a slideshow of Meatless Monday summer grilling tips (via the Meatless Monday Tumblr)

NPR also has a really great list of grilling tips from Alton Brown.  The tips cover grilling basics, plus advice for meat, fish, vegetables and fruit.

How to Grill a Steak, A Complete Guide from The Food Lab on Serious Eats does seem pretty complete to me.  I’ve never grilled a steak, so I should probably keep this post for future reference.

The collection of grilling sauces posted to Food Republic lately sound awesome.  I may have to figure out some way to use Coca-Cola Barbecue Sauce, Guinness-Dijon Marinade, or South Carolina Barbecue Sauce without a grill.

Serious Eats has 25 homemade sausage and hot dog recipes.  I’ve never tried making my own sausage, nor do I have the equipment, but it does hold some interest for me.  Maybe at some point in my life I’ll get around to it.

Foods To Barbecue: Strange Options You Never Considered Before on Huffington Post actually includes a few things I have considered before, but certainly goes beyong the usual hamburgers and hot dogs.

The Serious Eats list of 26 Grilled Snacks, Appetizers, and Side Dishes includes Planked Goat Cheese-Stuffed Peppadews, Barbecue Meatballs, Grilled Hasselback Sweet Potatoes with Rosemary and Garlic, and Charred Asparagus Tacos with Creamy Adobo and Pickled Red Onions.  Yes, please.

And, if you don’t have the opportunity to grill your own, tomorrow is apparently national burger day and A Hamburger Today has some links for burger deals around the county.

    We are getting a grill handed down this week (hopefully) you can come use it any time! :) I don’t think our’s will have much on it besides burgers, pork chops, and steaks… you know, since Scott won’t eat veggies!
