In April, shortly after the location for the 2012 Healthy Living Summit was announced, I received the following email:
Dear Mrs. Massachusetts,
Are you planning to attend HLS in Boston this year?
Sincerely,
Mrs. Illinois
Mrs. Illinois, also known as Krista of Can’t Survive on Yarn Alone, was my very first HLS friend, way back in 2010. She randomly sat next to me on the bus headed to the Frito-Lay tour and we’ve been friends ever since. As the weeks went by, we continued our email correspondence regarding the upcoming summit. At the beginning of August, Krista let me know about a wine tasting she’d discovered that was happening August 16th (the Thursday before the summit) in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
Would I be interested in joining her, Jess and Erin? Absolutely. What better way to knock another item off my 101 in 1001 list than with friends I only get to see once a year, if that? I bought a ticket and last Thursday, Krista, Jess and I took at taxi to Mount Auburn Cemetery, where Erin had planned to meet us.
The wine tasting was lovelier and more low-key than I ever expected. It turned out to be a fundraiser for the Friends of Mount Auburn, so it was just people sipping wine, nibbling snacks, socializing and enjoying the view. The weather was perfect, the wine was delicious and live music set the mood. I couldn’t have asked for more from my first wine tasting.
The wine tasting was at Washington Tower, in the middle of the cemetery. I somehow summoned the courage to climb the tower (very unlike me) and was rewarded with a beautiful view of Boston in the distance. The cemetery and tower are beautiful and I highly recommend it if you’re in the area, even if there isn’t a wine tasting scheduled.
Thanks for the tip, Krista, I’m so glad we made it happen.
I’m so glad that we were able to go! It was a lovely night.
