One of the things I like best about our CSA, Mighty Food Farm, is that it’s a free-choice CSA. Even though we never go to the farm to pick up our produce anymore (the farm moved from Pownal to Shaftsbury, Vermont a couple years ago and we just haven’t made the time to visit the new farm), we’re able to choose exactly what we want from bins of vegetables that are brought to our pick up location in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
At least, that’s how it usually works. Unfortunately, indoor location for late fall and winter pick ups won’t be available until the beginning of December. Mighty Food’s solution to this issue was to let us pick up pre-ordered boxes of food at a store in downtown Williamstown. We’re three weeks into this system and it’s been working great.
There are a lot of advantages to the box system. We still get to choose what food we want, by emailing our list based on what’s available each week. Pick up is super easy, we just show up and grab our box. Theoretically, I could also do my menu planning before pick up
Hope that “behind the scenes” look at CSA life was interesting. Now, without further ado, what we’re eating lately:
