It’s official: beer bread is one of the simplest, most delicious ideas in my baking repertoire. Ever since making a basic version back in March, I’ve been looking forward to trying it again. Luckily, we soon found ourselves with another bottle of beer we didn’t want to drink (I’m beginning to think that this is the best thing about buying those variety packs). This variation uses Sam Adams Cherry Wheat beer, but you could use any beer you want; the cherry flavor will just be less pronounced.
I love the way this bread, which also includes bittersweet chocolate chips and dried cherries, turned out. The bread has a much less strong beer taste than my earlier versions and the batter itself isn’t too sweet. This bread is the perfect accompaniment for tea or ice cream.
Chocolate Cherry Beer Bread
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 12 ounces 1 bottle Sam Adams Cherry Wheat beer
- 1/3 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
- 1/3 cup sweetened dried cherries
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a large bowl. Stir with a fork to combine.
- Add the chocolate and cherries and combine evenly.
- Pour the beer into the dry ingredients and mix until no dry flour remains.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9x5" loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour.
- Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes after baking, then remove from pan, slice and serve. Enjoy!
