Heat & Greens (CSA Meal Plan #154)

Published on June 21, 2024 By Emily. Updated on July 13, 2024

Welcome to summer! Once again, the school year and parenting basically took me out of the blogging game, but I’m very excited to resume this hobby for the summer and post CSA meal plans on a regular basis. We picked up our first Mighty Food Farm CSA share of the season his week, starting our 13th summer as members. Each week, I order online from the list of available vegetables and then pick up them in Williamstown.

The Pick Up

arugula, collard greens, cucumbers, garlic scapes, Haukrei turnips, kale, radishes, sweet potatoes

CSA orders are always a little tricky for me at the very beginning of the season. As excited as I am to have a weekly supply of farm-fresh veggies, the options are a lot of leafy green items (lettuce, escarole, frisee, cabbage, swiss chard, bok choi, etc ) which aren’t always popular with my kids. Nevertheless, I was definitely looking forward to this pick up. What I didn’t anticipate was that our first week of summer break would involve record high temperatures and a stomach bug that made its way through every member of our household. I cannot remember the last time I felt so sick, but at least I didn’t have to make plans for a substitute teacher. We’re finally coming out of both the heat and the illness, but the plan has definitely undergone some changes since I originally placed my order.

The Plan

chicken breast & black bean tacos

hot dogs and potato chips

loaded salads – arugula, turnips, radishes, cucumbers, lettuce (from the supermarket), grape tomatoes, chickpeas and feta

dinner at my in-laws

chicken sausage with kale chips and roast potatoes

pinto bean quesadillas and collard greens

takeout for Brian’s birthday
