For a while, I was sort of opposed to restaurants. I thought it was cheaper, healthier and more fun to make and eat my own food at home. I’m not sure that’s untrue, but lately I’ve been increasingly interested in checking out local restaurant establishments and discovering what others are creating. Getting inspiration from the internet is one thing, but tasting good food is another. And sometimes I just really don’t want to cook.
Before going out to eat, Brian and I are increasingly likely to check Yelp or Urban Spoon to see what other people think. We did a lot of this during our trip to the Pacific Northwest and it helped us find some great restaurants. Of course, sometimes Yelp can’t be trusted. (via the Huffington Post)
If you’re going to go out to dinner, it’s best not to make a fool of yourself. Food and Wine has 5 ways to embarrass yourself in a nice restaurant.
Food Network star Guy Fieri may be opening at restaurant in NYC. As much as I enjoy checking out celerity restaurants, I’m not sure Guy’s is going to top my list (though I do enjoy some of the Diners, Drive Ins and Drives places he’s been to). (via Food Republic)
Guy’s not the only one with big plans. 12 of the Top Chef contestants are planning to open restaurants soon and the Huffington Post has the list. I’d love to check out #2, 6 and 12.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Friendly’s Restaurants may be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This is sad in a general sense, but I’m certainly guilty of not helping support our local Friendly’s establishment.
The Kitchn has a review of Four Kitchens, which tells the story of Lauren Shockey’s cooking in restaurants in New York City, Paris, Hanoi, and Tel Aviv, plus an interview with her. Another book to add to my Goodreads list.
