Today Brian and I headed to Mountain View Farm in Lanesborough for blueberry picking. Mountain View Farm has been our go-to in the past (see this post from 2012), but we didn’t make it there last year. Blueberry picking was high on my agenda for this summer and was thrilled that we were able to put it on the calendar for today. It couldn’t have been a better day – temperatures were in the mid-70s and it was partially cloudy. The farm had just reopened the pick your own field that morning after a couple days of letting more berries ripen. Not many other people were picking while we there and the berries were plentiful.
We came home with about 10 pounds of berries, which we immediately rinsed in vinegar and then laid out a towel to dry. I’m looking forward to turning them into jam, muffins and ice cream. And that’s just in the near future…many of these berries will find themselves in the freezer to be enjoyed throughout the winter.
