What a different a couple weeks makes. This week’s menu came together relatively easily. Granted, we somehow didn’t get to some of the dishes on my last menu (for what reasons, I can’t remember), so I just pushed those meals ahead a week. Last week was pretty crazy here, with lots of stuff going on at both my jobs, but I think things are going to be significantly less crazy for the remainder of January. Of course, my grad school semester starts this week, so we’ll see.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about community and strengthening real life connections with other people. It appears I’m not the only one, as we had friends for dessert here Friday, enjoyed Saturday dinner hosted by another family from church and are enjoying Taco Tuesday with yet another group of friends. I’m really looking forward to it. Eating together is so important, and yet it’s so easy to not make the effort. “Effort” being a relative term; I really do not have an excuse for not opening my home more often. There’s also talk about hosting game nights a regular thing around here. We’ll see!
The Pick Up:
spinach, potatoes (4 lbs – 2 items), butternut squash, garlic, beets, carrots
Not too exciting looking, but really useful.
We just signed up for our 2015-16 CSA share this week as well. Despite a small winter sharing being just a little too small when we’re home for 2 full weeks, we renewed our current commitment of a medium (10 items weekly) main season + a small (10 items, biweekly) winter share. Local friends, check it out: Mighty Food Farm
The Plan:

One more programming note: Instead of writing 2 sentence reviews of the best dish I made from the previous menu in each of these posts, I’m going to do a monthly post that just talks about the best new recipes I tried over the course of the prior month. Stay tuned and let me know what you think!
There are so many things on your menu I want to make!! Thanks for sharing with the Thursday Blog Hop!
