June is a crazy month. This year especially, for some reason. July and August are pretty open, but the next 3 weeks involve the end of school, some travel, the beginning of my summer job, our anniversary, Brian’s birthday and probably some other things I’m forgetting at the moment.
As a result, the next few CSA menu plans are going to be a little sporadic. Some weeks will have two pick ups, some will have none. Our farm is awesome is that it lets you roll over additional items to other weeks if you miss a pick up or don’t take all your items. Guaranteed there’s going to be some of that this month.
At any rate, here’s this week’s pick up:
I am so excited about these strawberries. We could have picked our own, but it was rainy and we hadn’t come prepared to pick berries, so we used 6 of our 10 items on strawberries. (If you picked your own, strawberries were one item per pint, already picked counted as two items). I don’t regret it in the least; we have a lot going on at the end of the week and still have vegetables leftover from the last pick up.
And the plan…
…with last week’s remaining veggies:
Spinach: Spanako-Barley from The Meatlover’s Meatless Celebrations
….with this week’s pick up:
strawberries: strawberry ice cream
lettuce/arugula mix + Hakurei turnips: side salads (+ scallions and radishes from last week)
kale: kale and salami calzones from The Victory Garden Cookbook
