Another successful pick up at the farm: a head of lettuce, kohlrabi, kidney beans (2 items), turnips and spinach.
This week was especially exciting for 2 reasons: chicken and strawberries. We bought a frozen 3 pound whole chicken which I’m really looking forward to using. I haven’t cooked chicken in forever and I’ve never done a whole chicken, so it should be fun. I’m hoping we can get a decent number of meals out of it.
Mighty Food Farm’s strawberry crop was also ready for pick your own. Picking strawberries Friday afternoon was wonderful; the field was full of red, sun-kissed berries. We came home with 2 pints which were too beautiful to do anything with besides eat just the way they are.
The view from the strawberry patch was pretty awesome as well:
Where did last week’s produce go?
Once again, we ate a lot of salads.
Overall it was a pretty quiet cooking week for farm items. The turnips actually made it the full week without being used, so we’re using them up with this week’s share. This week’s meals have been much better already, but you’re going to have to wait to see them.
