Ordinarily, I don’t think of myself as a big smoothie fan. Yet here I am, reviewing my second frozen smoothie kit. Go figure. As you may recall, I taste tested Yoplait’s frozen smoothies over a year ago. Last week when I hit the grocery store, I was presented with one of my weaknesses: an item I had a coupon for was also on sale. This isn’t a terrible thing; I only clip coupons for things I would actually eat, but the combination of the 2 discounts meant I was motivated to purchase something I might ordinarily pass up.
Brian happened to be shopping with me and so we made the decision to splurge and try out the new Jamba Smoothie Kit in Razzmatazz (strawberry, raspberry and blueberry, with non-fat yogurt).
Brian and I both liked these smoothies better than the Yoplait product. Instead of adding milk to the blender, you add apple juice, which made a big difference in the taste, texture and digestion of the smoothie. The berry flavor was fresh and strong, but not overpowering. The texture was excellent and didn’t separate as it melted.
I have never been to a Jamba Juice store, so I can’t speak to whether or not this smoothie tasted like the ones they sell. I still think it’s probably just as easy to buy a couple bags of frozen berries and make your own smoothie, but the ingredients list didn’t scare me and I really did like the flavor, so it’s possible the Jamba smoothies will find their way into my cart again, if the price is right.
Disclaimer: I purchased the Jamba Smoothie Kit with my own money out of my own curiosity. The opinions expressed above are my own.
