Dear Ryn,
I have some good news for you. Your wedding is less than 2 months away!
I also have some bad news. Your wedding is less than 2 months away!
Love, Your Very Helpful Matron of Honor
In an ideal world, I’d save these highlights until the weekend of my sister’s wedding. But her wedding’s in the fall and “wedding season” is now. Even though I’m not close to many people who are getting married this year, my Facebook newsfeed is full of people getting married, attending weddings and planning weddings. One of my good friends just got engaged this week as well. It’s hard not to have weddings on the brain and my Reader isn’t helping any:
Most weddings still involve rings. If you’re inclined to be creative, mental_floss has some excellent geeky engagement and wedding rings.
I am in awe of people who prepare their own food for weddings. The Kitchn has 71 comments from readers full of ideas for serving 150 wedding guests on a budget, if you’re up for the challenge.
Serious Eats commenters have a lot of responses to the question What Beer is Right for a Wedding?
Finally, an answer to the age old question, courtesy of mental_floss: Does Wedding Rice Really Make Birds Explode? There were bubbles at my wedding. I’m pretty sure bubbles don’t make birds explode.
If I could have another wedding, I think I’d go with some sort of fun theme. There are so many great ideas out there! EPBOT has some great photos from a Harry Potter themed wedding.
One of the most fun parts of getting married is registering for and receiving gifts to start out your new life. Apartment Therapy has 10 must-have essentials for a first kitchen. I’m not sure about the French Press or toaster oven—we don’t have either—but otherwise it’s pretty solid.
After 5 years of marriage, the couple behind Young House Love put together their collection of Registry Dos and D’ohs.
Not long after Brian and I started dating, I made it clear to him that my married life was going to involve purple Fiesta dishes. Years later, I’ve got purple, white and green. I love my dishes, but readers of The Kitchn submitted ideas for other durable dishes worth registering for.
Apartment Therapy has a great collection of housewarming gifts for newlyweds. Or, if you’d prefer, gifts for your favorite blogger (I like the lacquer boxes and the Glassybaby candle holders).
