Hello, long lost blog. My apologies for being MIA for a full week; believe me it was not intentional (so much for all the intentionality I talked about in my last post). But life happens!
Last weekend, in the midst of a miserable heat wave, Brian’s brother and sister-in-law came to visit. It was their first time to the area which was really exciting; we haven’t had newcomers in a long time! They only stayed through Sunday morning and it was pretty awful outside, but we gave them the tour of our Berkshires and had a really nice time together. The heat caused me to revisit my dinner plans in an effort to avoid turning on the oven. Instead I made my version of The Pioneer Woman’s sesame noodles with fresh CSA vegetables (turnips, carrots, summer squash, etc.); it was very well received. Just one more reason why I shouldn’t stress out about cooking for company. Hopefully they come back soon and we can enjoy more of what this area has to offer. And not sweat so much.
Continuing the theme of “apparently people actually want to come visit when they don’t have to sleep on a couch in your office”, my sister and brother-in-law arrived just 36 hours after our first guests departed. They hadn’t seen our new house yet and we had fun hanging out and playing games together, but they were mostly in town to see Guster, Ben Folds Five and Barenaked Ladies with Brian and I at Tanglewood. Based on a terrible weather forecast we upgraded from lawn tickets to seats inside the covered shed on the day of the show. Ultimately the weather turned out to be lovely, but we were all so glad that we’d purchased the closer seats. Being able to actually see the bands on stage was wonderful and our assigned seats allowed us to leave home later and grab an awesome dinner out (of buffalo wings, salad bar and beer) before heading to the show. The concert was amazing, definitely one of the best I’ve ever been to. I would watch any of those bands preform again in an instant, especially at Tanglewood.
After my sister and her husband departed on Wednesday afternoon, I filled my time until dinner with napping. Getting home at midnight on a night when I have to work at 8 the next morning is a bad idea, no matter how good the show is. Yesterday Brian and I went blueberry picking at the same location as last year and came home with about an equivalent amount, if not a little more. I’m looking forward to some canning of blueberry jam this weekend, as well as tag sales and continuing to catch up on sleep.
I feel like this has been a constant promise over the past few weeks (I seriously don’t know what’s up with the lack of time this summer), but I do have several post ideas in the works and I’m very much looking forward to returning to regularly scheduled programming.
