Little Things, Better Late Than Never

Published on October 19, 2011 By Emily. Updated on October 19, 2011

Remember Julie’s 50 Days of the Little Things challenge?  Remember how I was going to post my little things every 10 days?  Well, if you were paying attention, you might have noticed that last Sunday was day 10.  Despite the fact that writing about my little things was listed on my posting schedule for Sunday, I forgot to include them with my highlights.  And then I forgot to list them on Monday.  Apparently editorial calendars are only useful if you actually look at them.

So, without further ado, the 14 little things that have recently brightened my days:

  • Decent vegetarian lunch options at Uno’s
  • Catching up with long lost friends
  • Driving to the CSA with Brian while listening to NPR
  • 80 degree weather in October

  • Fall colors
  • Talking to my sister on the phone
  • Pumpkin soup, my first homemade pumpkin item of the year
  • Friends who help us out when Brian and I both need the car
  • Seeing a student paper with “Mrs. P is the best teacher” written on it
  • Avoiding the crowds by grocery shopping early on a Saturday morning
  • Making a week’s worth of lunches in my Crockpot

  • Walking around downtown with my new iPod shuffle
  • Supportive coworkers
  • A Starbucks Awake Tea Latte with Pumpkin Spice

My plan (which may be irrelevant, if history is any indication) is to post my next batch of little things on day 20 which is next Wednesday.  I’m really enjoying taking the time every day to think of something good that happened.  Thanks for the challenge, Julie!

After months of good intentions, I finally got aro After months of good intentions, I finally got around to making Change Your Life Chicken from @thelazygenius. It totally lived up the the hype: super crispy chicken skin, flavorful vegetables that didn't burn, and a recipe that was easy and largely hands off. I'll be adding this one to the regular rotation.

Happy first day of spring! It actually felt like s Happy first day of spring! It actually felt like spring here, which was lovely. In addition to playing in the yard and going for walks, we enjoyed dinner from @aokberkshirebbq. Pictured is their excellent sausage sandwich (left), brisket sandwich (right) and potato salad. So delicious.

When @wholefully announced their new #MakeItWholef When @wholefully announced their new #MakeItWholefully Cooking Club, I immediately got excited about participating. My excitement increased when I saw that the recipe for this quarter is Easy Chicken Quesadillas. These quesadillas are so much better than what I usually make. I'm not sure if the taco seasoning (I don't usually add cumin to mine), the fresh bell peppers or the burrito-sized tortillas, but this recipe makes a quesadilla that reminds me of eating at restaurants. (Remember eating at restaurants?) Everyone in my household loved this recipe and I will definitely be making it again.

In January I decided that one of my "deliberate" s In January I decided that one of my "deliberate" sub-goals for 2021 would be to figure out the best pizza dough recipe and topping combinations for my family. We've had pizza night on the menu for a long time, but I knew that I could improve the pizzas that were coming out of my oven. Each week (or so) I've been sharing in my Stories the pizzas I've made with various stores and toppings. I am eight weeks in I've already learned a lot about technique and what I prefer in a pizza crust and toppings. I'm also looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year will hold in my pizza making studies. Check out my highlights for all the pizzas so far!

In typical 2020 fashion, I had all kinds of issues getting my Top 9 created this year and this image still has problems.
But the images are accurate and nicely summarize the year - take out from local establishments (@aokberkshirebbq, @thebreakroomgw, @northadamsfarmersmarket), #RelishmentsBakes projects, the natural beauty of the Berkshires and our successful container garden.

Apparently, in the weirdness that is 2020, posting Apparently, in the weirdness that is 2020, posting to my Instagram feed was one of the things that didn't make the cut. There are more items than I'd prefer in that category, but recently I've felt like I'm beginning to get my feet firmly planted beneath me again. This fall was so busy with learning how to teach remotely and parent 2 children well. I don't anticipate that life will ever feel not busy, but I've been able to carve out some time lately for activities I've been missing. Making bread is one of those activities. Hopefully, more posts in the feed will be more frequent going forward.
