At the end of each month, I think about how I already know what the next month’s Relishments Bakes challenge is going to be and that I should start the post. And then I remember that before I can post the challenge, I need to write up that week’s menu plan and the current month’s Relishments Bakes Results post. And next thing I know (because my blogging time is so limited), it’s the middle of the month and I still haven’t made a post about the current challenge. Apparently, my month challenges are just going to be posted a couple weeks late, every month. There’s still lots of time to bake though!

Relishments Bakes – July
If you’ve been following along, this month’s theme is probably not a surprise. April was Something Old, May was Something New. Now, we’re looking at Something Borrowed.
One of the most enjoyable ways to get new recipes is from people you know in real life. When I try a great dish at a barbecue or a cookie swap (remember when we used to gather with people and share food?), I’m definitely not leaving the event without getting a copy of the recipe. It adds so much meaning to a dish when you can say “this recipe came from my mom” or “from the family I stayed with when I studied abroad” or “from my best friend”. This month, I’m going to bake recipes I’ve borrowed from people that mean a lot to me.
Who will you borrow your recipe from?
- Parents
- Siblings
- The family of your significant other
- The library, by borrowing a cookbook
- The woman at your church who always brings the best potluck dessert
- A coworker who provides awesome work treats
- Internet friends
- One of the many Black food bloggers I shared last month
Don’t forget to use #RelishmentsBakes on your social media posts and tag @relishments so I can see your results! And share what you make with whoever’s recipe you borrowed!
