The Weekend in Numbers

Published on December 19, 2010 By Emily. Updated on December 19, 2010

Friday:

2 bags of farm-fresh organic food picked up from our CSA

$40 spent at the supermarket, mostly on baking supplies

2 “failed” batches of Earl Grey infused shortbread, later rescued by my husband’s genius and more time in the KitchenAid

5 total batches of Earl Grey infused shortbread baked

72 Earl Grey infused shortbread cookies made for the Capital District NY Eat Drink Blog cookie swap Saturday night

1 delicious polenta casserole baked to share at the cookie swap

1 can of Select Harvest soup consumed for dinner, because I didn’t have time to cook a real meal

3 hours spent playing games at a friend’s house

Saturday:

36 lime sugar cookies with pumpkin seeds baked and packaged by sixes, for Sunday night’s local cookie swap

3 hours, total, in the car to get to and from the CDNY cookie swap (Also, we arrived 30 minutes early)

20 fantastic bloggers and their significant others squeezed into Heather’s apartment (total number of males in attendance: 4)

2 plates full of amazing food and 1 yummy cup of spiced hot Musselman’s cider consumed

3 answers I got correct in the 22 question game of “Guess the Holiday Movie Quote”

5 pairs of socks won for having the closest correct guesses for the number of m&ms in 2 different jars (30-something and 70-something)

57 cookies received from the cookie swap, 50% of which went into the freezer

1 black cardigan left in Heather’s apartment (luckily I have another one!)

Sunday:

1 lovely morning spent at church

38 Christmas letters printed (finally!)

47 pieces of biscotti made to be given to my awesome classroom aides

36 cookies received at the cookie swap

Total:

3 late (for us) nights having lots of fun

2 cookie swaps attended

5 recipes (2 cookies, 2 biscotti and a polenta casserole) baked

over 93 cookies now in our possession

0 hours of lesson planning because there are only 2 more days of school until Christmas break!

3 times I had to use spell checker to correct my spelling of “received” in this post

…and that is why there are no Highlights today.

Apparently, in the weirdness that is 2020, posting Apparently, in the weirdness that is 2020, posting to my Instagram feed was one of the things that didn't make the cut. There are more items than I'd prefer in that category, but recently I've felt like I'm beginning to get my feet firmly planted beneath me again. This fall was so busy with learning how to teach remotely and parent 2 children well. I don't anticipate that life will ever feel not busy, but I've been able to carve out some time lately for activities I've been missing. Making bread is one of those activities. Hopefully, more posts in the feed will be more frequent going forward.

#sponsored All the time we've spent at home lately #sponsored All the time we've spent at home lately has definitely had me looking to expand the snack options in my pantry. I jumped at the chance to try these @sunmaid Sour Raisins and they immediately became one of my daughter's favorite snacks. She likes them because they're reminiscent of candy, I like them because they're technically fruit and they come prepackaged for easy snacking and taking on the go. I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty they are!

This weekend's weather was amazing and my family e This weekend's weather was amazing and my family embarked on the only way to kick off fall: we went apple picking at Jaeschke Orchards in Adams. The parking lot was full, but out in the orchard we hardly came across any other groups. The trees were heavy with apples and we quickly filled our bag. Looking forward to apples for snacks, pie, crisp and turnovers in the coming weeks.
