This week, Google changed some of the options in Reader. Usually I’m a cheerleader for website upgrades; I’m one of the few people who gets really excited about whatever new features Facebook has and I always upgrade to the newest version of sites as soon as I can. The latest version of Reader, however, is making me a little sad. It used to be that you could choose friends to share Reader items with and I did so frequently with about a dozen real life and blogger friends. The recent update eliminated that option and substituted it with the ability to share interesting items through Google+. I have an account on Google+ but I very rarely check it and I don’t want to share all the posts used to share with the people that I’ve added on Google+.
So, since I can no longer share within Google Reader the way I used to, I’m going to share some of those random posts as this week’s Highlights.
Julie’s most recent “Brain Food” post is all about the correct storage of seeds and nuts. Very interesting—I was glad to see I was doing it right, mostly.
Halley posted an interesting link regarding how the television show 30 Rock is a rip-off of the Muppets. It’s very well done.
Some interesting thoughts on holiday cards from The Simple Dollar. We write a “family newsletter” every year and send it out to our family and friends. In my mind, this does let readers know that we care about them, but I can certainly see Trent’s point.
If your can opener is as awful as our last one was, check out these videos on Bit Rebels about how to open a can with a spoon. Hopefully I never need to know this, but it could happen.
Everyday Minimalist’s post about The Slavery Footprint website is very interesting. Though I spend a lot of time thinking about the origins of my food, I do a poor job of thinking about where everything else in my life comes from. Like, 44 slaves bad.
Post-Punk Kitchen has a delicious looking recipe for marbled banana bread that looks amazing. It’s definitely going on my list of recipes to try—soon!
This is one of the coolest music videos I’ve ever seen: Kina Grannis’ music video takes place in front of a backdrop of jellybeans. The video is below and Mashable has a behind the scenes video as well.
Check out this genius tip from Blogging Your Way to help people recognize you at blogging conferences. Easy, simple and something that probably never would’ve occurred to me.
Finally, you can now play MASH online (via Smart, Pretty & Awkward). I know you were all very concerned about when that was going to be possible.
Thanks for linking to Smart Pretty and Awkward! I am loving playing MASH online too :)
Thanks so much for the shout-out! (Now going to check out what Simple Dollar has to say about holiday cards…) :)
The video with the jelly beans is going in Friday Favorites this week! I love it/want to eat it!
